Fashion health

Fashion-health massage (ファッションヘルス, fashon herusu), or health for short, is a form of massage parlor that manages to avoid the anti-prostitution law by offering a range of services that stop short of vaginal intercourse.

Fashion-Health clubs can be found in all large cities in Japan and are easy to spot because of their bright flashing lights and garish decor. Often advertised as "Health Clubs", they are likely to confuse foreigners unfamiliar with the activities inside. These clubs usually post pictures of their "masseuses" near the entrance, however sometimes faces and eyes are censored with pixellation or black strips. Some club entrances feature caricatured depictions of services provided. Prices range from 6000 to 20,000 yen per hour, depending on the services utilized. Some of these fashion health clubs cater exclusively to native Japanese people, with signs in Chinese, Korean, English and Portuguese boldly displayed at the entrance prohibiting the entry of foreigners.

Ero kawaii

Ero kawaii (Japanese: エロかわいい, literally "erotic cute"), widely called "erokawa" for short, is a Japanese subculture. The term also refers to that subculture's fashion. The style makes use of camisoles. The combination of pink and black is the most popular use. Ero kawaii started with Singer Kumi Koda using the term to describe her own sexy style. It is becoming commonplace for "erokawa" to be written in the captions of fashion magazines. There has been much criticism of poor taste directed at such fashions as onēkei which are very conscious of erokawa. There are also similar terms "ero kakko ii" (erotic good-looking), "ero kakko kawaii" (erotic cute-looking), and "ero kakko warui" (erotic ugly).

Environmental Green Political Assembly

The Environmental Green Political Assembly (みどりの会議, Midori no Kaigi) was a right-wing political party in Japan which had a mix of platforms. It advocated Green conservatism but was also reformist. On June 22, 2004, because of the poor performance the party showed in the 2004 Upper House elections (the party won no seats), it dissolved itself, not merging into any other party, spelling an end to the Sakigake movement in Japanese politics.

みどりの会議

History and current position
The party grew out of the Sakigake Party, which renamed itself to Midori no Kaigi after it adopted a policy of ecologism. Sakigake itself grew out of the New Party Sakigake movements of the 1990s.

Midori no kaigi had most of its support from the ecologists of Japan, as well as some people who left the ruling Liberal Democrats.

On domestic policy the party was ecologist, conservative, and right-wing reformist. It tended to support, like the Liberal League, the ruling Conservative bloc, made up of the Liberal Democratic Party and the New Clean Government Party.

The party, however, had no seats in the Diet, even though it made a goal of one seat in the House of Councillors election in July 2004, which it did not gain. On July 22, 2004, Midori no kaigi dissolved itself, not grouping itself into a new party, but just dissolved - spelling an end to the Sakigake movement of Japanese politics. The dissolution was registered with Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications on October 31, 2004.

Dr. Grip

Dr. Grip is a brand of mechanical pencil made by Pilot Pens based in Japan. The Dr. Grip style also comes in a pen variety. It is well known for its "deflection-deflection/knock system." Also the Dr. Grip pencil was specially designed with a wide barrel and cushioned grip to relieve writing stress and fatigue. The Dr. Grip pencil has been awarded the Arthritis Foundation's "Commendation for Ease-of-Use."

The Dr. Grip pencil is ergonomic and arthritis-friendly designed to relieve writing stress and fatigue. The pencil can make writing easier for people suffering with soreness and swelling in the hands, fingers and wrists.

The deflection-deflection system is a special form of lead advancement. A pencil using this system is also commonly known as a "shaker pencil". A small, metal weight lies around the core of the pencil, and when shaken, slides up and down; thus pushing the lead advancer down and advancing more lead.

The majority of Dr. Grip pencils are the same only differing in color. The Center of Gravity pencil is a slightly different in that it's designed with perfect weight distribution for more comfortable, balanced writing. It also has a wide double layer comfort grip to reduce writing stress. This pencil comes in 0.7mm only.

The pencils are available in 0.5 and 0.7mm depending on the style of pencil.

Dehua white porcelain in Japan

Dehua white porcelain in Japan was traditionally known among Japanese as hakugorai or “Korean White Ware.” Although Korai was a term for an ancient Korean kingdom, the term also functioned as a ubiquitous term for various products from the Korean peninsula. This is not to suggest that historically Japanese were entirely oblivious to the existence of the Fujian province kilns and their porcelain, now known as Dehua or Blanc de Chine ware. (Blanc de Chine is a French term for Chinese white porcelain known in China as Dehua ware and is in common usage in the west.)

The Dehua kilns are located in Fujian province opposite the island of Taiwan. Coastal Fujian province was traditionally a trade center for the Chinese economy with its many ports and urban centers. Fujian white ware was meant for all of maritime Asia. However a large quantity of these ceramics was intended for a Japanese market before drastic trade restrictions by the mid 1600s. Items were largely Buddhist images and ritual utensils utilized for family altar use. Associations with funerals and the dead have perhaps led to a certain disinterest in this ware among present day Japanese, despite an intense interest in other aspects of Chinese ceramic culture and history.

Many examples of great beauty of this ware have made their way to collections in the west from Japan. Among the countless Buddhist images meant for the Japanese market are those that with strongly stylized robes that show an influence from the Kano School of painting that dominated Tokugawa Japan. It seems a certainty that Dehua white ware was made with Japanese tastes in mind. Perhaps also likely is Japanese taste in the very plain white incense tripods and associated objects for Japanese religious and ritual observance. Of interest also are the Buddhist Goddesses of Mercy with child figures that close resembled Christian figurines. Such figurines were known as Maria Kannon or “Blessed Virgin Goddesses of Mercy” and were part of the “hidden Christian” culture of Tokugawa Japan which had strictly banned the religion.

White porcelain Buddhist statuary was extensively produced in Japan at the Hirado kilns and elsewhere. The two wares can be easily distinquished. Japanese figures are usually closed on the base and a small hole for ventilation can be seen. Hirado Ware also displays a slightly orange tinge on unglazed areas.

Daibutsu

Daibutsu (大仏 or in traditional orthography 大佛) is a Japanese word meaning literally "Large Buddha" that refers to large statues of the Buddha or one of his various incarnations. In the West, the term is often used to refer to the Kamakura Great Buddha following its popularization in the poem "The Buddha at Kamakura" by Rudyard Kipling, but in Japan, it more typically refers to the Great Buddha of Nara, located in Tōdai-ji, which is a larger statue.

Takaoka in Toyama Prefecture has the self-proclaimed "Number 3 Great Buddha of Japan," but it is not actually the third largest. It is 15.85 meters from the ground to the halo, but the statue itself is only about half that height.

The Daibutsu of Hōkō-ji in Kyoto (16th-20th centuries) was destroyed by a series of earthquakes and fires and has not been rebuilt after the last disaster which happened in the 1970s.

The Daibutsu of Nihon-ji at Nokogiriyama in Chiba Prefecture, built in 1783 and restored in 1969, is Japan's largest stone carved daibutsu with 31.05 meters tall

Consulate-General of Japan in Honolulu

Consulate-General of Japan in Honolulu (在ホノルル日本国総領事館, Zai Honoruru Nippon-koku Sōryōjikan) is Japan's diplomatic facility in Honolulu, Hawaii, United States. The facility is located at 1742 Nuuanu Avenue. The facility's jurisdiction includes Hawaii and American Samoa.

As of 2008 the consul general is Toshio Kunikata (國方 俊男, Kunikata Toshio).

History
In 1885 Japan's first consular facility, Consular Office of Japan, opened within the Royal Hawaiian Hotel; as of 2008 the facility now houses the Hawaii State Art Museum. The Japanese government upgraded the facility to a consulate-general on November 17 of that year. On February 14, 1886, Taro Ando, the first consul general, purchased land from Judge M.A. Austin; Ando opened the Japanese consulate on the parcel at the intersection of Nuuanu Street and Kuakini Street; the facility included the residence and the business office.

In 1908 the consulate purchased a building at the intersection of Beretania Street and Fort Street. The three-story stone office building became the consulate-general facility while the original building at the intersection of Nuuanu Street and Kuakini Street became the residence of the consul general. The consulate sold the building in 1913, and as of 2008 the building houses classrooms for Hawaii Pacific University. The consulate bought a property neighboring the Beretania and Fort building from Mrs. Judd. The 13,400-square foot grounds included a new consul general residence and office space. Around 1920 the two-story wood main building, located in a well-to-do neighborhood, had a gold imperial chrysanthemum crest in the front.

When the United States joined World War II, the government placed the consulate staff under house arrest; the Swedish Vice Consul, Gustaf Olsen, occupied the Japanese consulate and provided services for Japanese residents in March 1942; many of the Japanese served by the Honolulu consulate found their primary income members placed under internment. The normal operation of the consulate was re-established after the signing of the San Francisco Peace Treaty became effective on April 28, 1952. Since then the consulate served business and tourist traffic from its home country.
